it’s been quite the journey! When my wife and I first tied the knot, we made a little promise to each other—a quirky agreement to keep our marriage strong and our tempers in check. We decided that whenever we had a disagreement or a quarrel, the person who “lost” the argument would have to walk 5 kilometers. It was our way of cooling off, staying active, and ensuring that no argument ever got too heated.Well, guess what? I’ve been walking 5 kilometers every single day for the past 75 years!
That’s right—every day without fail. Rain or shine, summer or winter, I’ve laced up my shoes and hit the road. It’s become such a part of my routine that I can’t imagine a day without it. People often ask me, “How do you stay so fit and healthy at your age?” I just smile and tell them, “It’s all thanks to my wife and our little agreement.”But then, they always follow up with another question: “If you’ve been walking all these years, how come your wife is so healthy and full of energy too?” Ah, that’s when I lean in and share the real secret. You see,
my wife—bless her heart—has been following me every single day for the past 75 years. Not to keep me company, mind you, but to make sure I actually complete those 5 kilometers! She’s been my silent watchdog, trailing behind me to ensure I don’t cut corners or take any shortcuts.
It’s become our little ritual, our unspoken bond. While I’m up ahead, putting one foot in front of the other, she’s right there, keeping an eye on me.
And in doing so, she’s been walking just as much as I have! It’s funny, isn’t it? What started as a simple agreement to keep the peace turned into a lifelong habit that kept both of us healthy,
active, and deeply connected. So, here we are, 75 years later, still walking side by side—well, technically, she’s a few steps behind me, but you get the idea. It’s a testament to love, commitment, and a little bit of humor. After all, who would’ve thought that a silly promise all those years ago would lead to a lifetime of health, happiness, and countless miles walked together?
